چکیده

8 Abstract 9 Purpose The aim of this study was to provide guidance 10 on the safe zones for the exposure of the proximal radius by 11 measuring the distance from the PIN to various anatomical 12 landmarks in the proximal forearm in pronation and 13 supination. 14 Methods Twenty cadaveric arms were used for this study. 15 On the anterior aspect of the forearm, the distance between 16 insertion of the biceps tendon and the arcade of Frohse as 17 well as the shortest distance between the PIN and the ulnar 18 aspect of the radial neck were measured. On the posterior 19 aspect of the forearm, the shortest distance between the 20 PIN and the ulnar border of the interosseous membrane 21 was measured at 30 and 50 mm distal to the articular 22 surface of the radial head. 23 Results The distance between the PIN and ulnar aspect of 24 the radial neck had a mean of 21.6 mm in supination and 25 13.3 mm in pronation. The distance between the radial 26 tuberosity and the arcade of Frohse was 18.6 mm. The 27 mean distance between the PIN and the radial border of 28 ulna at 30 mm distal to the articular surface of the proximal 29 radius was 12.3 mm in supination and 22.3 mm in prona30 tion. At 50 mm distal to the articular surface of the prox31 imal radius the mean distance was 8 mm in supination and 32 16.2 mm in pronation. 33 Conclusions The course of this nerve is variable as it 34 winds around the radial neck within the belly of the supi35 nator muscle. Safe distances for dissection have been 36 presented in our study. 37 38

Comparison of the Rate of Nerve Injury after Posterior and Anterior Approaches in Fractures of Proximal Half of Radius in Adults

This clinical study was carried out to compare the rate of nerve complications after anterior and posterior approaches in forearm both bone fractures in adults. For this purpose, 310 patients with forearm both bone fractures operated during 1997-2002 in Kerman Shahid Bahonar Hospital were studied. From these patients, 121 cases werefemale and 189 cases were male and they were aged from 12 to 67...

The patient had also been noticing a progressively enlarging lump on the lower anterolateral aspect of the left antecubital fossa for the last three months. Physical examination andelectro diagnos...

Variation in Bifurcation Pattern of Brachial Artery

Recognizing the arterial variations of human upper extremities is of potential clinical practice because this area is involved in arterial handling and invasive medical procedure. During dissection of the left upper limb of a 35-year-old male embalmed cadaver, we saw brachial artery bifurcation in the middle third of proximal portion of the arm. Its medial branch descended along the medial side...

Case Report: A Case Report on Variation in Bifurcation of Brachial Artery

Variations in arterial anatomy are less frequent, contrary to the venous system, and most of these variations affect visceral arteries. Variations in the brachial artery are the most frequently reported and so far a minimum of six different patterns have been described. The most common of these patterns is the superficial brachial artery, which lies superficially to the medi...

The posterior interosseous nerve and the posterolateral approach to the proximal radius.

We dissected 21 cadaver elbows to determine the relationship of the posterior interosseous nerve to the posterolateral approach to the elbow and head of the radius. At the distal end of the exposure the first branches at risk, those to extensor carpi ulnaris, were on average 6.0 +/- 1.0 cm (4.0 to 8.4) from the articular surface of the radial head. When using the posterolateral approach it is i...
